Portable air conditioner to cool conversion van?

for my next van, i will be working in it for a while. so i want to use a 9,000-15,000 btu portable air conditioner powered by a generator. would this be good for keeping the vehicle cooled down, especially on a hot day? i don't want to use the vehicle's air conditioner nor keep it running just for that purpose. thanks!
