Is this artichoke spoiled?

The leaves in the middle are starting to turn black and brown around the edges (a strip about a quarter of an inch is all brown) and there are a couple tiny black spots on the outside leaves. NOTE: It has not been cooked yet. My sister grows them and she just cut it from the garden a week ago and it has been in a plastic bag in the fridge ever since.
