Which pests are these?

Ok, so I have a vegetable garden in front of my house and there are pest eating them. Some of the vegetables getting eaten are squash, artichokes, swiss chard, and even my cherry tree. Even our herbs are being eaten. We aren't sure if they are spider mites or pincher bugs. There are an endless amount of insects so me and my family are stumped. I live in the oak grove in Santa Barbara close to a park all the bugs aren't surprising. The leaves are kind of brown where they have been eaten. Any help to what these are and how to get rid of them would be helpful. I really would like our garden to be a success.
