Is there a way to convert the outlet or should we return the ac and buy a new one?

I just bought an 18,000 btu air conditioner. After we got it home we noticed it has a 250 volt plug. We have a 110 outlet. Is there a way to safely convert the plug or do we need to return the air conditioner and buy a different one?
