This was meaningful to you, but chances are, he has either not thought of it since 5 seconds after it occurred, or he's been thinking exclusively about the fact that you were blushing--he either doesn't get it or thinks it's cute. Neither is likely to cost you anything. He sounds like he's friendly enough he doesn't care if you're shy and awkward, so for now, make it your mission to just say hi to him when you see him. Do that until it's okay-ly comfortable, then start adding simple questions: "what's up?" "how are you?" "that was a killer math test, huh?" As you start making more attempts to talk to him, he'll probably start reciprocating and talking to you--most friendly guys do. All they need is a tiny invite and they'll talk to you whenever. As you get more and more comfortable, you can try extending the conversations with whatever comes to mind and whatever you know about him. Ask him about his sports and hobbies, etc. Chances are, he'll make it easy once you start the conversation, just because chatting is in his nature.
