Should I use baby bonjela teething gel?

My OH and I disagree about readily giving our 3 month old medication. I HATE seeing him in any discomfort but like to wait to see exactly what I think the source of the problem is. He has had bad gas pain from birth so most of the time this is the cause. Anyway, this is the second time I've given it to him and he seems to be knocked out within 10 mins! Last time he slept for 8 hours when he normally sleeps for 5. He was also sleepy the next day. I read the ingredients and there is alcohol (ethanol) in it!! I'm not sure it's a good idea. Any thoughts?
