I have an admiral b10000 BTU air conditioner. It freezes up what gives. It cools great for a while than start?

to blow out a small amount of air. I checked the filter, its clean ,but there is ice behind the filter .I turn it off the ice melts then maybe 2-3 hrs latter it will do it again .HELP What's wrong .am i doomed to buy another.
