How do I get my Toshiba laptop M505D to start?

I have a toshiba Satellite M505D laptop and I turn it on but it won't start...the buttons light up btu that's it. You don't hear nothing else, I push the caps lock button but it won't light up. I already tried turning it off, connecting the charger without the battery and holding the power button for 15 sec. but it still doesn't turn on. I tried hooking it up to my tv but I couldn't see nor hear a thing. Idk what happened to it...my dad must've broken it or something. I want to know how it coulda broke and how can I fix this...I don't wanna get another computer because right now, I don't have any money and plus I got important stuff in there...please help me and thank you.
